Coal Mining:
Coal mining is a dangerous job that will continue to be dangerous no matter how much safety equipment you have. Boy's would start being coal miners at the age of twelve, but only if they lasted the job of picking unwanted things out of the coal coming in. This job of picking things out of the coal coming in would give the boys a hunched back and they could lose an arm or a had or any of their fingers. Being in the mining industry meant long hours in a small and cramped hole in the ground breathing in toxic fumes with low pay and a high risk of death of the fumes and if the mine collapsed. Like many other jobs if you lost anything important to your work you would have run out of luck. Many men and young boys took the jobs as miners because they where payed a little better then a factory worker by a little, but only because of a greater risk of death. People who work in the coal mining industry knew that they had a high risk of death if they hit something wrong inside the mine or was down is the mine to long without fresh air that the gas could kill them. Mining changed the status quo by having very young children doing very hard jobs for low wages. The men who owned the mines didn't really seem to care if their workers had the proper equipment to get the coal out, but they only cared about get the coal out.
Mining may have gotten safer over the years but miners are still in danger like the 33 Chilean miners were trapped 700 meter underground in a mine collapse. But it took a long time to get the miners out because the rescuers didn't want the mine to collapse anymore then it already did on the miners. We need coal for somethings to run or heat up like the houses people live in. The workers who are extracting the coal have gotten better equipment and have better wages and their job is safer but their job will always be dangerous because they are dealing with explosives, toxic fumes and large equipment.
